Twenty Nine Tots Honored at 2012 Graduation Ceremony

Twenty-nine four year olds graduated from the Carol DeJoy Moms & Tots® Family Literacy Program this summer at our 2012 graduation ceremony. The graduates will go on to local pre-school programs throughout Lee County.  The program began eight years ago with four moms and their children at one location. It has grown to include over 1,000 moms and their pre- school children at seven locations in Lee County.

This program seeks to teach mothers and children English to prepare the children to start school ready to learn.  In fact, according to interviews with area principals, we have found that 100% of our graduates started school average or above average as compared to their peers. The children know their colors, letters and numbers — all in English!

What a great program to help not only our children, but their families, the local schools and the community as a whole! We always need volunteers to teach and donations to help us to buy books and materials for this program. To help, call 239 676-5202.

Preparing young children for success in school is a very rewarding and important activity. Come and join us!
