Susan Acuna, MSW, President and CEO of Literacy Council Gulf Coast has been selected to receive the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award from Indiana University’s School of Social Work Alumni Association.

According to the award letter, she was selected as an alumna of distinction from Indiana University for her “outstanding achievements in social work.”

“This is an honor for me to speak to the future leaders in social change from my alma mater,” Susan remarked. “I have had the opportunity to lead the Literacy Council Gulf Coast to become the second largest literacy nonprofit agency in the United States. I can’t wait to talk about our success to the next generation of social workers and nonprofit leaders.”

Jim Kahl, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Literacy Council Gulf Coast, remarked “We are so pleased that Susan is being recognized by Indiana University for her achievements. She is an outstanding person and we, including students, tutors, staff, and the communities we serve, are very fortunate to having her lead our literacy program.”

The award will be presented on May 2, 2013 in Indianapolis, where Susan will be addressing social work honors graduates at a special Honors Reception at Indiana University’s School of Social Work in Indianapolis, Indiana.
