Free literacy classes open to Fort Myers residents
FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 31, 2026)--The Literacy Council Gulf Coast (LCGC) launched free English literacy classes at the Pine Manor Community Center in partnership with the Pine Manor Improvement Association, Inc. (PMIA). Classes are held Monday-Wednesday from 6:30-7:45 p.m. at the Pine Manor Community Center located at 5547 10th Ave in Fort Myers, Florida.
Classes are still open for student enrollment for learners of all ages and skill levels. The LCGC is seeking additional volunteers to help expand the program offerings. Volunteer tutors are not required to have foreign language skills or teaching experience, as LCGC provides all necessary training and materials.
Pine Manor is a Fort Myers neighborhood that is designated by the Lee Board of County Commissioners as in need of direct social service assistance. PMIA is a private nonprofit agency that provides services to about 3,000 at risk children and families in the Pine Manor area of Fort Myers. PMIA currently runs a community garden, food pantry, culinary training, Health and Social Services.
“Residents of Pine Manor expressed interest in attending our classes, but were unable to commute to Bonita Springs, so we brought the classes to them,” said Leah Mason, executive director of the LCGC. “Our goal is to build a community where everyone has access to literacy, no matter their circumstances.”
